I love hackney but hackney doesn't love me: Day 3

Day 3

It is now 2 days since i found out that I have no school to go to. yesterday my photo was in the newspaper and lots of people saw it. I also found out that 3 more children from my class don't have schools either so i feel a little bit better. My best friend Stan, who is in our band, has got a place but he will have to travel a long way to get there. Today I played in a concert at the Cadogen Hall with lots of other children. We played Ain't misbehavin, Seitz Concerto no2 3rd movement and Bach Gavotte in G minor. The best thing was that I met my friend Harry there, he plays the Cello. Doing a Blog is really fun and getting comments from everyone is making me feel fantastic. Tomorrow I will find out which children got the schools they wanted so I am a bit worried about going to school.

This must be a difficult time for you but you are learning a lot-bloging is a brilliant way to tell the world about yourself, not just this situation. Lots of schools will be thrilled to have you.

The key thing is to decide what you want. If it is Bridge Academy, Why not organise a meeting with Sunita Baines, the head of Bridge and start a conversation with her. Whena place arises (and it will ) she is far more likely to offer this to someone who will be such an obvious asset to the school.

Sad thing is that the same happened in our village - to EVERY SINGLE KID (unless they already had a brother or sister at the local school).

It's the one time of year when people can't wait for you to arrive. Yesterday he delivered letters to parents in Liverpool which informed them whether their children had got into one of their preferred secondary schools. "There was one road last year where a whole row of people were waiting outside their houses to see me," says the 44-year-old as he delivers mail in the Lark Lane area. "They all asked 'Have you got anything for us?'. Some of them had even let their kids stay off school because they were so excited." But not everyone gets the news they are hoping for. In Hackney, east London, Paul Jamieson found out his son Mac, 10, had not got into any of the five schools the family had chosen. "Mac has gone to school happy and excited...and now we will have to sit him down and explain that he hasn't got into any school at all." Mr Jamieson said the issue had hung over them for the past few years. "Last year about 10 kids at his primary school didn't get a place so we knew this was a possibility," he said. "We visited all the schools and have done a lot of leg work but it was not enough - we seem to be living in a sort of educational black hole. Academy "I suppose we made a bit of an assumption that because we have a brand new academy opening down the road in September we would have a good chance of getting a place but we didn't get in." He said the family were being forced to consider moving away to find a school. "We have lived around here for 12 years and love it," he said. "We have invested a lot in this community and it is a lovely place to live, but what other options do we have? We are going to have to consider moving out if we cannot get a place at school for our son. It is a ridiculous situation which is affecting lots and lots of people and will destabilise the community."
